SUMER IS ICUMEN IN (The Summer has arrived)

Under the conduction of maestro Igor Vlajnić, the Opera choir of Croatian National Theatre Ivan pl. Zajc continues its string of concerts for Rijeka Summer Nights, each year choosing a different theme. This year it is "the development of polyphonic music through history". The repertoire begins with one of the first attempts at polyphony from the 13th century, moving onwards to the 21st century, stopping to explore most styles and musical eras. This concert is an excellent opportunity to hear unusual harmonies from never before performed pre-renaissance composers, the mastership of Dutch polyphonic school, baroque's opulence or harmonic progression of Viennese classics. The choir shall also perform works by popular opera composers from different centuries. They will finish with the 20th and 21st century leaving and open question - in which direction could music continue its course?
