A native of New Orleans, LA, Christian Scott has successfully absorbed the rich musical heritage of his family, in addition to the diverse musical sounds that filled his childhood home. Steeped in the jazz tradition of his hometown New Orleans but now residing in New York City, the classically trained Scott infuses his music with the rock, neo-soul, and funk grooves. In addition, his ability to harness the attitude, urgency, and power of the rap generation, has causing him to be the trumpet side man of choice for Prince, Mos Def, and Gil Scott.

The trio of keyboard/organ/piano player John Medeski, drummer/percussionist Billy Martin, and bassist Chris Wood formed not in some vastly creative alternate universe, but rather in the neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York, known as D.U.M.B.O. (Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass) in 1991. Medeski and Wood, students at Boston's prestigious New England Conservatory of Music, decided to move to New York City, with intent to explore the late-night underworld of the city's burgeoning jazz scene...
In the first weekend of July, for nine years in a row, Opatija will be a host to the Liburnia Jazz Festival, which, according to its level of recognition, number of concerts and visitors, is definitely the biggest jazz festival in Croatia and the region - with 22 concerts on 8 stages in three days.
The stars of 9th Liburnia Jazz Festival are MEDESKI, MARTIN & WOOD - cult American jazz group, and probably the most inventive contemporary jazz musicians.

Sam Paglia was born on 4th July 1971, while at the local cinema "Shaft" was been shown. He was born under "Shaft" sign. He began to play piano by ear at the age of 8.
